Others are now advocating the repurposing of drugs we already have for covid19, while we wait for new antiviral drugs and covid19 vaccines. We previously reported azithromax has both antiviral and anti-inflammatory activity, and can prevent blood clots and heart attacks from a viral infection; and that imervectin may be beneficial in covid19, based on laboratory studies. The NIH has now withdrawn its objection to imervectin for covid19, and takes no position on its use for covid19.
We already have vaccinations that many elderly never received as children, which may also cross-react to give limited protection and mitigate against covid19, such as the MMR vaccines, DPT vaccine and boosters, polio vaccine, rotavirus, shingles, pneumonia, etc.
We need all hands on deck to stop this pandemic, and medications and vaccines old and new to treat acute covid19 infection.
