Osteoarthritis has been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Osteoarthritis presents a 42% increased risk of congestive heart failure, a 17% increased risk of coronary heart disease, and a 14% increased risk of stroke. A new study suggested 41% of the increased cardiovascular risk in osteoarthritis arises from the use of NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), and a variety of prescription NSAIDs.
The remaining increased risk arises from immortal pathogens, which are the root causes of osteoarthritis and cardiovascular disease.
