The US spends $3.3 TRILLION on healthcare costs, more than triple the entire national debt, every year! The US spends $1 TRILLION on medical research, every decade. Chronic disease accounts for 75% of healthcare spending; and in Medicare and Medicaid, chronic disease accounts for 99% and 83% of healthcare spending. Health insurance premiums have risen 87%, since 2000. Patients (and insurers) pay exorbitant prices for drugs to treat symptoms. Less expensive drugs to treat causes are removed from the market, priced out of the market, or not used by medical practitioners.
In the U.S., 6/10 adults have a chronic disease, 4/10 adults have two or more chronic diseases, and the number of people with chronic disease is rapidly increasing. More patients have chronic disease, and the patients with chronic disease are younger. Medicine has accumulated vast amounts of knowledge, some of which is right and some is not right. Understanding many chronic diseases have common infectious origins and diagnosing immortal pathogens, in patients with chronic disease, will lead to greater understanding of chronic disease; and benefit patients and society!
