The “intracell research group” held an interesting conference today on pre-morbid conditions in Alzheimer’s disease, and the recording will be posted on their website shortly, in two parts. (intracellresearchgroup.com)
One presenter made the point hundreds of thousands of studies have been published identifying observations and findings in Alzheimer’s, but few if any with conclusions on causation. He stated we must first know the cause before we can find effective solutions, because if we can pinpoint one or more causes we may already have medical interventions to prevent and mitigate Alzheimer’s disease. Another presenter made the point patients with cognitive impairment should receive in depth diagnostic testing for infectious pathogens, and the pathogens which are found treated, to determine if treatment improves the disease. Several made the point Alzheimer’s can evolve over decades, and earlier diagnosis and treatment of the root causes may mitigate or prevent the disease.
All of the experts presenting today are studying pieces of the Alzheimer’s puzzle, and now those pieces need to be integrated into a cohesive theory of causation for Alzheimer’s disease, for the benefit of patients. Pre-morbid and co-morbid conditions may have the same root infectious cause(s). Degenerative brain diseases may have more than one cause, or a combination of causes, in different patients and in different forms of degenerative brain disease. Reasoning backwards from the observations and findings in Alzheimer’s to what pathogens can cause these observations and findings, and routine diagnostic testing for numerous pathogens in patients with cognitive impairment, should aid in discovery.
