Methods and assumptions in medicine can impede discovery of the causes of chronic disease

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Two of the issues in medicine which limit discovery of the cause of chronic diseases are, 1.) Science asks leading questions (hypothetical questions), i.e. does X cause Y, which then requires 1000’s of studies into 1000’s of possible causes, hoping an answer will reveal itself; and, 2.) Science assumes one cause per disease: Scientific studies must consistently confirm a single cause, or it is considered an association, and co-morbid conditions are not investigated for possible common root causes.   These…..

The pandemic has re-taught important lessons about infectious disease

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Before antibiotics people were more vigilant about handwashing, and staying home when sick. In the last 50+ years many people have forgotten these lessons; become complacent about acquiring and spreading community acquired infections; and instead go to work and send their children to school and daycare, even when sick.   The pandemic has re-taught these important lessons. Influenza and community acquired pneumonia have become practically non-existent due to measures taken to stop the covid19 pandemic, and greater awareness of the…..

Rare diseases may be the effect of infectious pathogens

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Rare diseases may be the unique effect of infectious pathogens or combinations of infectious pathogens on particular patients. The patients consult specialists with a particular interest in the patient’s disease, which can direct the diagnosis to the specialist’s area of interest.   Unknown and rarely described diseases should be investigated thoroughly for infectious causes before declaring the patient has a rare disease, particularly when the rare disease has a poor prognosis.

Symptomatic treatment is not a cure

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Opiate addiction is a problem in the United States, but why do so many patients have so much pain? In some counties, the number of prescriptions for opioids exceeds the number of people living in the county. Doctors prescribe pain medication, then their prescriptions are monitored by medical and pharmacy boards, who pressure doctors to restrict prescriptions for pain medications, leaving the patients in pain, addicted, desperate, self-medicating, and hoarding pain medications. Opiate withdrawal can cause agitation, aggression, and acts…..

Alzheimer’s evolves as pre-morbid conditions evolve

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

We are happy to share information on an upcoming Alzheimer’s conference. Alzheimer’s has many pre-morbid conditions, as the infectious cause of Alzheimer’s evolves and interacts with the immune system and other pathogens over the course decades. Intracell Research Group YleetstSepgredotaSryg onhast d1oihn0:0gd7reealrdii ASM  · It is an honor and a privilege to host this event on June 15th, 2021. Please share this excellent educational opportunity with your networks. The topics covered will address an incredibly important question: What are the pre-pathology events in Alzheimer’s…..
