Clinical trials for covid-19 on hospitalized patients

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

We found almost 600 ongoing and proposed clinical trials for Covid-19, and they all seem directed at hospitalized patients. We were unable to find clinical trials seeking to treat patients when they first show symptoms, or when they test positive. If people knew early treatment could help them have a milder illness, recover faster, and/or avoid serious illness, it would significantly reduce the level of fear, minimize the risk of further spread; and reduce the impact on the healthcare system,…..

Intracellular pathogens can change cellular processes and cause chronic disease

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

More than one intracellular bacteria and virus can infect the same cell, including immune cells, with both consuming and competing for energy made by the cell. The capsule surrounding the virus disappears inside the cell, leaving viral RNA; and the virus re-reforms a capsule with intracellular proteins, to evolve back into an infectious form that spreads in the body. Intracellular bacteria reproduce by cell division, spreading more and weaker infected cells. As infected cells die, abnormal proteins and cell debris…..

Intracell Research Group founder on infectious causes of Alzheimer’s disease

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Check out the interview of Nikki Schultek, founder of of the Intracell Research Group, on infection and Alzheimer’s disease. Their website shares scientific articles on chronic infection as a cause of chronic disease, and four of their board members were cited in our book. We added a link to their webpage on our FB page because of their important work and advocacy; and their readily available resources supporting infectious causes of chronic disease.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=sshare&v=W3ICLHkykDg&app=desktop

Diagnosis of infectious pathogens will promote understanding in chronic diseases

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Viruses and chlamydia species are intracellular parasites, which are difficult to treat when hidden inside a cell or pathogen.  The covid-19 pandemic has the potential to generate discoveries, and provide better and more efficient methods to diagnose pathogens.  It could lead to new antiviral medications against many types of viruses; better understanding of the role of co-infections (bacterial/bacteria or bacterial/viral); and lead to greater research into infectious causes of chronic disease, to determine best practices for treatment and avoiding antibiotic…..

Animals can be a vector for pathogens and parasites causing chronic disease

Carolyn Merchant Blog 1 0

New York City has 600K+ dogs and 400K+ cats; and a zoo in Central Park. New York City playgrounds were found contaminated with toxocara (roundworm), which lives in the intestines of dogs and cats, particularly stray animals. Toxacara can infect the liver, lungs, brain, eyes, and central nervous system; and has been linked to a reduced IQ.Metropolitan areas in Brazil have a highly density of pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and monkeys; 50% of elementary school children and 60-80% of…..

The Pink Super Moon can bring a powerful shift

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

The Pink Super Moon has different meanings in different cultures and religions. Some believe a Pink Super Moon indicates a powerful shift toward growth, inner equilibrium, and equality; and directs us to a higher collective consciousness. We hope the Pink Super Moon, during a week that is holy to so many, indicates these beliefs will become reality. Pictures taken April 2020—Santa Fe, NM, moon over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (Scargall); Taos, moon over Taos Mountain (G. Smith); and Albuquerque,…..

One Health Initiative shows no dividing line between animal and human medicine

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

The One Health Initiative encourages collaborative and communication between medical, veterinary, and climate scientists, to attain optimal health for people, animals, plants and our environment. Their web page is a wealth of relevant information on the origins of covid-19, pathogens transmitted between humans and animals, prior outbreaks of emerging pathogens, and the impact of climate change and deforestation in creating the emergence of new pathogens. The web page is well worth taking the time to explore. “Between animal and human…..

Minorities are disproportionately affected by covid-19 because….

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Chronic disease suggests a chronic infection. Patients who have a chronic bacterial and/or parasitic infection, who then acquire an acute viral infection of zoonotic origin, are more likely to have a poor prognosis. Minorities are disproportionally impacted by covid-19; however, exposure and severity of disease are separate issues. Minorities may be at greater risk of exposure to covid-19, because of their jobs, and due to income inequality, which interferes with the luxury of self-isolation. Minorities with covid-19 are more likely…..

Viral-bacterial co-infection causes more severe disease

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

Chlamydia psittacosis is an intracellular bird pathogen, which can be transmitted to other animal species and to humans. Psittacosis can host bird viruses, and which can trigger evolution of both the psittacosis and the viruses. Psittacosis has a remarkably similar presentation and clinical findings to covid-19. Psittacosis can become psittacosis pneumonia, which also has similar clinical and x-ray findings to severe and fatal cases of covid-19. In Feb. 2020, Sweden recently reported an outbreak of dozens of cases of psittacosis;…..

Tigers at the NY Zoo infected with coronavirus

Carolyn Merchant Blog 0 0

For more information about pathogens that are be passed from one animal species to another, resulting in amplification and transmission to humans, read “SPILLOVER: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic”, by David Quammen. The book is interesting, informative, and frightening, as it explains the evolution and transmission of animal pathogens to humans. The book was published in 2011, and predicted the next pandemic could originate in a wild animal market in China.   During the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic,…..
